How to protect your car from Halloween mischief

Mischief Night, Goosey Night, Cabbage Night, Devil’s Night … whatever the local name for Oct. 30 is where you live, it can spell trouble for your car . Residential home in California toilet papered, TP’d In some areas of the country, especially in and around the Northeast and Michigan, many kids hit the streets the night before Halloween hellbent on vandalism with shaving cream, eggs, toilet paper, socks filled with flour, etc.

It’s a mess all around, but the substances can be particularly damaging to the finish on your car, while impacts can cause dents and dings.

There are a few preventative and corrective measures you can take to ward off the evil, however, as suggested by Consumer Reports : Hide it

First and foremost, park your car in the garage if you can. You’re house may still take a hit, but it’s unlikely anyone is going to try to break in just to write vulgarities on your car’s windows in Silly String. Wax it

Wax doesn’t just give your car a nice shine, it puts a protective coating on it that can repel dirt and grime and keep it away from the paint surface itself. Consumer Reports recommends waxing every three or four months, even if you’re not expecting an egg attack. Rinse it

If you let your guard down and discover your car’s been hit, rinse it off as soon as possible before any contaminants have a chance to sink in and start corroding the surface. You’ll also want to remove anything hard, like egg shells, that can cause scratches if they move around. Quick fix

If you don’t get to it in time and paint damage has begun, but hasn’t made it all the way through the clearcoat, a cleaning wax may be able to clear off the bad layer and bring the undamaged paint to the surface.

Missouri reports 12 bears harvested in first black bear hunt

Missouri’s first bear hunt is complete.

The state held its first black bear hunt this season. According to local officials, 12 bears were harvested out of 40 potential bears.

The Missouri Department of Conservation revealed the numbers in a recent press release . This year’s black bear hunting season ran from Oct 18 through 27. State officials wrote that 400 permits were issued after 6,330 hunters applied for the hunt. (iStock) State officials wrote that 400 permits were issued after 6,330 hunters applied for the hunt. The state set a total maximum harvest for the season at 40 bears.

MDC State Furbearer and Black Bear Biologist Laura Conlee said, "This was an incredibly successful first bear hunting season for Missouri given that we have a highly regulated season, that bears in the state are widely distributed throughout some pretty rugged wilderness, and that many hunters had never hunted bears before."

CHANGING YOUR VOICEMAIL MAY BE A BAD IDEA WHEN LOST IN THE WOODS, DESPITE VIRAL SOCIAL MEDIA POST

She continued, "A harvest of 12 bears in our first season is testament to the hunters. Bear hunting is an extremely challenging endeavor, especially under the framework that we established. This was a new experience for many hunters, and they put in the work to be successful and take advantage of this new hunting opportunity."

The bear population in Missouri has been steadily increasing by about 9%. Within the next decade, the total population is expected to double. This increase resulted in the MDC implementing a regulated black bear hunting season for the first time in the department’s history.

"Our highly regulated and limited season included a sustainable maximum harvest of 40 bears, which is about 5% of our total bear population," Conlee said. "We also prohibited baiting and the use of dogs, limited hunting to 10 days, and restricted the number of hunters who could participate. With any new season, it is difficult to predict hunter success, so we took a conservative approach to limiting the number of hunters and length of the hunting season. This was to ensure we didn’t overharvest the bear population in any one zone."

The Chevrolet Silverado RST will be Chevy’s entry in the 2022 NASCAR Truck Series. (Chevrolet) The race vehicle is mechanically the same as this year’s model, but new rules allow for redesigned front and rear ends that more closely resemble the production truck’s and the switch to a composite hood and tail section. 2021 Chevrolet Silverado RST ( ) Chevrolet has fashioned the truck after the Silverado RST production trim. Dr. Fauci Just Said This to Anti-Science People

Coronavirus cases are ebbing in the USA but increasing if you tally them up worldwide—and as we head into the colder months, experts warn another surge is always possible. In fact some states in the Mountain West are currently experiencing such surges. With this top of mind, Dr. Anthony Fauci , the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke at Politico’s Health Care Summit 2021 yesterday. Read on for five life-saving pieces of advice—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don’t miss these Sure Signs You’ve Already Had COVID . Scientists and microbiologists with PPE suit and face mask hold test tube and microscope in lab "There’s a tenant in virology that’s very clear that viruses cannot mutate unless you give them the opportunity to replicate," said Dr. Fauci. "And the better that we do in containing the dynamics of viral spread, not only in our own countries, but throughout the world, the lesser an opportunity you will give the virus to accumulate a constellation of mutations that could lead to a problematic variant. I can’t give you a statistical number of how likely it will be. I know that we do have variants that have actually had some functional relevance. For example, the Delta variant that in the United States is now more than 99% of the isolates are Delta in the United States, that it is now in over 173 countries in the world that, that accumulated a group of mutations that allowed for a much greater transmissibility. So that’s one of the things we have to be careful about and why it is so compelling and important to have a global response to this pandemic and not an individual country response, but a global response because the less viral dynamics there are in the world, there’s much less of a likelihood that the virus will mutate to a van to a variant that would evade the vaccines that we have available."

Electric ‘Hammerhead shark’ Toyota bZ4X SUV debuts with Tesla-style steering yoke

The 2021 Toyota Rav4 TRD Off Road features special equipment that makes it better on unpaved surfaces, says Fox News Autos Editor Gary Gastelu. Toyota wants you to hang on. The Toyota bZ4X is a Rav4-size electric SUV. (Toyota) Toyota has unveiled the production version of its upcoming electric bZ4X compact SUV with an optional yoke-style steering wheel, similar to the one featured in the latest Tesla Model S . The bZ4X’s drive-by-wire system uses a yoke-style steering wheel. (Toyota) The difference is that the bZ4X’s is connected to a steer-by-wire system that has no mechanical connection to the wheels and is programmed so that the yoke only needs to turn up to 150 degrees from side to side and the driver doesn’t ever need to remove their hands.

Tesla’s is connected to a mechanical steering system that’s geared for 2.3 turns lock to lock, requiring the driver to reposition their hands with limited places to grip it during tight turns and parking maneuvers. Infiniti was the first to introduce a steer-by-wire system in a production vehicle in 2014, but its design uses a round steering wheel and has a backup steering column in case it fails. Without the need for a column, Toyota’s setup has the added benefit of opening up more space in the driver’s footwell. The bZ4X will come with a conventional steering system. (Toyota) The bZ4X will come standard with a conventional wheel and steering system, however, and an exterior design inspired by the shape of a hammerhead shark.

The Rav4-size model will be offered with 201 hp front-wheel-drive and 215 all-wheel-drive powertrains that have expected ranges of 310 and 286 miles per charge using the global WLTC rating, which tends to be higher than the EPA’s. The vehicle employs a heat pump air conditioning system and radiant-heat floor panels to improve its climate control efficiency. Toyota has not yet confirmed if both versions of the bZ4X will be available in the U.S., or if a larger battery pack will be available when it goes on sale next year.

Subaru will also be building a vehicle on the same platform called the Solterra, which has not yet been fully revealed.
